Customer: Michael Sweeney, Sacramento, CA

Michael Sweeney has been an architect for the City of Sacramento for 30 years, giving him plenty of experience in design. He recently completed a three-month renovation where he had transformed a 3 bedroom house into a 2 bedroom, creating bigger, more spacious rooms. Moving on to his dining room, Michael was looking for something that would make a statement. He particularly wanted to cover up the paneled doors used for storage. Over the 22 years of living in this home, Michael had accumulated many items and knew he couldn’t remove this space from the room. Wanting a unique addition to the room, he had the idea for a mural.

He quickly found the Murals Your Way website online and emailed the company requesting further details. He hadn’t quite decided on the exact image he wanted, so the design consultant sent him a package with more information. The original idea had been for a ‘billboard poster’ type of image, until The Birth of Venus caught his eye. Although continuing his search, he found himself repeatedly going back to this image. He thought it matched the décor and decided this was the one he wanted.

At that point, it was a matter of dimensions and sizing. Since he planned on installing the mural and trimming it down to each door panel, he wanted it to match perfectly and still maintain the flow of the image. Once Michael felt confident with his decision regarding the image and measurements, he finally ordered the mural and it was shipped out shortly after. Michael conducted the proper preparations for the doors, carefully cut and trimmed each panel and began installing the mural. This interesting way to use the mural on paneled doors exhibits the many possibilities there are for murals in homes today. It is a great way to customize a room and illustrate your own personal style.

Michael loved the transformation of his dining room, giving it an Italian feel that compliments his dining table and chandelier. “The material had a precise quality. I’ve gotten many great reactions to the mural and also shared the Murals Your Way website with all of my co-workers,” said Sweeney.
