Customer: Kendra Fjerstad, Minneapolis, MN
After working several years as a corporate architect, graphic designer and architect Kendra D. Fjerstad started her own design firm, KDF Design, to pursue her long-time interest in designing custom homes. Kendra currently designs homes for builders and private homeowners in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Although she has yet to build a home that she has designed for herself, she currently resides in a 1950’s home that has been completely transformed by adding her unique style which she has termed “Contemporary Asian-Fusion”. Kendra’s interests in Asian culture, design and philosophies are recognizably evident in her décor choices. She actively incorporates the principles of Feng Shui into her living spaces.
Not only does her interest in Asian culture influence her personal design style, it expands into other areas of her life as well. Kendra also trains in the ancient Chinese Martial Art of Shaolin Kung Fu. She wanted to alter her otherwise dismal basement living area and chose to add the Japanese Tea Garden II mural from Murals Your Way to the space. While the room had only been used for the occasional extra overnight guests and functioned as an open space to practice her Martial Arts, it has now become an inspirational room that flows with the rest of the home.
With no prior experience installing wallpaper, Kendra explained the process to be very simple and was able to install the mural all on her own. She then brought in decor items that complimented the mural. She was happily surprised with the improvement the mural made to the room stating, “It has completely transformed the space. I now find it enjoyable to be in the room where I can practice my Kung Fu surrounded by an Asian landscape. I will definitely be recommending Murals Your Way to my clients who might want to incorporate custom murals into the homes that I design for them.”
