Customer: Lanen and Danielle A., Maple Grove, MN
Newly engaged, Lanen and Danielle (and puppy, Rica) have been living in their new home for a little over a year. They fell in love with the character of their three bedroom rambler, but knew they had a lot of work ahead of them. The living room was bright purple, the bedroom was black and the basement ‘recreation’ room was covered in faux brick paneling, but they saw great potential. So they set out to do some major redecorating. They wanted to create a home that felt warm and inviting; something that reflected their personal style.
Their love of nature is obvious in their décor and color choices. The natural earth tone colors and use of dark woods throughout the house have an old world type of feeling. Deciding they wanted to add something unique to their home, they opted to try a wall mural and ended up getting two.
To compliment the old world design, they found an Antique World Map mural on MuralsYourWay.com. “We loved the color and detail of the image.” They decided to create a giant picture frame around the mural and applied it to luan paneling, rather than directly to the wall. Using regular household wood trim, they secured it to the luan paneling with wood clue and a nail gun, finishing it off with corner blocks on each end. “It turned out great! We absolutely love it! We’d never hung wall paper before but found the installation to be very easy. And since it’s on luan paneling, we love that we can move it around if we want to. Our friends can’t believe it’s a mural. They think it’s a really large painting.” The mural was placed in their basement bedroom turned lounge area which opens up to the recreation room. “We’re still decorating and trying to find the right pieces to finish the rooms, but we love the huge impact the mural makes already.”
The other mural in their living room is a custom photo of a trip they took to Tennessee. “We loved that Murals Your Way could create custom murals from one of our own photos. We decided to use a picture from a trip we took to the Smoky Mountains. Although it was a gloomy day, we loved the bright green grass, perfect little barn and smoking mountains in the background.” They placed the mural in a coved-in section of the living room which gives the affect of looking through a window. “Murals Your Way has taken a simple picture we took from the car on the side of the road and created the ultimate souvenir for us. It reminds us of that day and all the fun we had on the trip.”
“It’s the first thing you see when walk through the door and everyone is amazed that we actually took the picture. It’s fun to hear the great comments we get on both murals and keep thinking of other ways and places to use more!”
