Customer: Mike Shaushkin, El Segundo, CA
Mike & Cris Shaushkin have lived in their El Segundo, California home for 34 years. They spent many of those years raising two children, now grown and living on their own. During time in between they traveled the world and even lived abroad in the Middle East country of Bahrain for three years.
Late last year, the previous basketball court in the backyard was demolished to make room for an addition to the home, which included a recreation room. Even early on in his concept of the addition, Mike was already considering including a mural along the longest wall, instead of installing windows. While searching the internet, he found the Murals Your Way website and called the toll-free 800 number to speak with a Design Consultant, Cathy. He had a few initial questions, but was still deciding on the image he wanted. After consulting with his architect and deciding to recess the wall to give the impression of a window, complete with a window sill, two years had actually gone by.
Once Mike was ready to order his mural, he re-visited MuralsYourWay.com, and noticed that some of the images he was interested in were no longer available. He had taken note of a particular photographer, David Lawrence. “I became enthralled with an ocean scene off the Oregon Coast, so I reached out to Cathy again because she was most helpful in my earlier queries.” Cathy was able to help Mike obtain the image from the artist and he placed the order for his 12ft x 4ft mural of Deep Blue Pacific, Oregon Coast by David Lawrence.
Mike hired a local professional wallpaper hanger from the National Guild of Professional Paperhangers to install his mural into the recessed area of the long wall. That kind of detailing around the mural was a perfect way to create the feeling of looking out a window without having to go to all the trouble. It turned out beautifully! “We absolutely love it and so do all our relatives and friends! Cathy was wonderful to deal with and I would certainly deal with Murals Your Way again.”
