Installing a wall mural might sound intimidating, but today’s peel-and-stick and prepasted wallpaper technology makes it incredibly simple — even for renters or first-timers. Detailed installation instructions are included with every order. Be sure to read the instructions for your material. However, whichevermaterial you choose, the basic steps are all the same.
1. Clean and dry the wall surface - wall preparation is key. Cleaning and drying the wall will reduce the number of air bubbles and bumps tied to debris on the wall.
2. Mark vertical and horizontal guidelines - marking guidelines will ensure your mural is level. Don't rely on corners or the ceiling because walls are rarely plumb (straight)
3. Install your mural based on your mural type - For peel and stick, simply peel the backing off as you apply each panel. You'll do this horizontally from top to bottom down the panel. Do not pull the backing off all at once. For prepasted wallpaper - spray the back with water and then apply to the wall. For vinyl, spread paste on the back of the mural and then apply to the wall.
4. Smooth with a plastic squeegee or cloth - Smooth from the middle out to the sides, starting at the top working your way to the bottom. The goal is to push trapped air out to the sides to reduce air bubbles.
It used to be so tough to remove wallpaper. Older varieties are notoriously difficult to remove and would sometimes cause damage. With present day materials and adhesives, removal is a snap - with no damage to the wall. Here are a few removal tips:
